D.C. Getaway

Jeff happened to come by some cheaper than cheap airline tickets in October of 2015. He had two and we could go anywhere in the U.S. that Virgin America Airlines flew. They fly into D.C. and since we were both missing D.C. and the east coast so much we decided to getaway for a weekend. Jeff and his boss swapped work days so Jeff could not work Friday. There was a red-eye flight Thursday night going there and so this would give us two full days and a half day Sunday on our little adventure. Aunt Jennie graciously watched CJ for us the whole time. I had never been away from CJ for more then a half a day so this was going to be weird. Jeff and I really needed a getaway together. The past year had been so rough and we had little time for us. The thrill of the quick adventure was exactly what I needed. We both had the best time.

We arrived at the San Francisco airport Thursday night. Part of the deal was that we had to fly standby. Because Jeff knew one of the Virgin America employees though she made sure we got onto a flight that had good chances of getting on the flight. There was a pretty good chance of getting on this flight but we were still a little nervous. We ended up getting on the flight and there was only once seat extra. Seats are assigned on this airline and the two seats they had left to give us were the very back row, right in front of the bathrooms. The one seat that was left on the airline empty was the seat right next to me. Apparently no one likes the row by the bathroom. This was fine by me! I had an extra seat to stretch out on! This was very helpful since I needed to get some sleep so I was ready to tour D.C. the next day!
We had taken off and I was ready to snuggle up to Jeff and try to fall asleep when the flight attendant from first class comes up to us and introduces herself as Tennessee and that her best friend was the lady who got this flight for us. She said she was going to take care of us and she would get us anything we wanted at no cost to us. She offered us everything they serve in first class and any movie we wanted to watch. She brought us a delicious chicken sandwich with fruit and Jeff chose a movie. I would have asked for other food and a movie also if It wasn't 11:30 pm and HAD to get some sleep over the next few hours if I was going to survive the next day. She was so nice and even though I got maybe 3 hours of sleep and Jeff maybe 2 hours, it was one of the best flights I have ever been on.
We arrived in D.C. at 6am, east coast time, and found the bus that would take us directly to the metro station that would then take us into downtown. We stopped at the National Mall metro station and found a yummy place for breakfast, Wicked Waffles.
YUM!
Washington Monument with perfect, beautiful blue skies behind it! It was the perfect temperature that day. It couldn't have been a better day in D.C.

They are in the process of building an African History Museum. Very neat!

We spent the most time at the Holocaust Memorial Museum, a place neither of have been. We were there several hours and didn't see everything. I had mixed feeling about going but I am glad I did. It was very educational and very well done. I love learning about the past and learning why people did what they did. It is fascinating to me. If we don't learn from our past whether in our own personal life or the people around the world's past we will never progress and progress is what we are here on earth to do.
By noon we were exhausted but didn't want to stop long since time for short for seeing everything we wanted to see so we stopped for a Dr. Pepper break before moving onto the next museum.

National Museum of American History. We only had an hour to rush through a few things in this museum before we had to take the metro to where our friend Jeff Taylor would be picking us up. It was a wonderful museum that I loved every minute of and only saw maybe 1/3 of.

A little crazy with only a few hours of sleep
Baby Kalel was the sweetest little thing!
Trees! Beautiful Maryland. We really missed our friends Jeff and Sydney in Maryland. It was wonderful to stay a couple days with them and catch up.

We spent Saturday at the Renaissance Festival. A favorite in Maryland in the fall. I soaked up all the trees and beauty of the forest. We had a great time with our friends and laughing more than I had the whole year.

The flight back was a close call. We got on the last flight Sunday evening, on the last two seats of the flight. We didn't get to sit by each other this time but that is okay. I was expecting that. We got home late Sunday night and it was so good to see CJ again. We missed him! We had the best time! Until next time D.C.

Love reading all the updates. This trip sounds so fun! I'm really glad you had the opportunity to take it. Every couple needs a getaway once in awhile.
